The live-action clips featured Back to the Future (1985) fame Christopher Lloyd as Rick Sanchez and It (2017) horror film fame Jaedan Martell as Morty Smith. Lloyd impersonated the famous Rick burp in one of the clips.
Rick and Morty aired its pilot episode on the cartoon network’s adult programming adult swim on December 2, 2013. Rick Sanchez is an inspiration of the famous Back to the future character Dr. Emmett Brown and the character was played by Christopher Lloyd himself.
The twitterati and instagrammers were left in shock after the famous clip were posted by the official Rick and Morty handles in Twitter and Instagram. This isn’t the first time where an animated show is made into live-action. Rick and Morty joins the line after the famous live-action attempts like Lion King, Aladdin, Popeye, Scooby-Doo, Jungle book, Ninja Turtles, The legend of the Tarzan and the list goes on. There is still no confirmation regarding the live-action version of Rick and Morty. One of the Rick and Morty fan reacted that this clip is a tribute to Lloyd’s character in Back to the future.
The reactions from the netizens raise the ultimate question ‘Does Rick and Morty require a live-action?’. The history has not been kind to several cartoon turned live-action films for its poor execution. Aditi Agarwalla, a Rick and Morty fan said that there are chances that live-action will fail to translate the similar impact like animation does for example, Rick and Morty is filled with space travel, aliens and lot of reality bending stuff which will be hard to make it convincing in a live-action film. She also added that the live-action version of Lion King (2019) wasn’t appealing because the characters were made to look like real life animals. In the cartoon version, where Timon and Pumba eat worms and maggots from the woods was very comical and funny but it wasn’t the same in the live-action version, said Aditi.
